The tablet is a low cost budget option for watching video and it is easy to use due to the Android operating system. So if you’re used to using a smartphone with android, then this tablet shouldn’t be an issue navigation.

Compare this to operating an iPad and you can understand the difference is based on what device you’ve previously used. In both tablets the youtube app runs similarly; so the operating system choice is up to you.

How to choose to best tablet for youtube and video consumption

Choosing the best tablet to use for YouTube is dependent on price range, screen size, and the processing power. You’ll want to consider storage space and whether you are willing to pay for YouTube premium or if you are ok with ads. I recommend a tablet that has at least 1-2GB ram in it if you want better performance when using apps like YouTube with multi-tasking and video watching.

See the Best Tablets for Social Media (Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat)

Display and screen size

The display and screen size is important. you’ll want a resolution that allows you to watch video in 720p and 1080p. This means you can watch YouTube in these resolutions and swap between them in the video playback options. A bigger screen also means you can share it with friends and family when watching YouTube on your tablet.

The display can be IPS, like the Fire HD or Apple tablets. However, iPad’s tend to have a “retina” display which means you will have a more crisp viewing experience due to the technology behind it. when I tested these tablets the iPad did have a more noticeable improvement in display, but the cost was significantly higher and the Fire tablet was capable enough to run YouTube.

Battery life & charging speed

The battery life is something that is easily overlooked when choosing a tablet to use for video consumption. You don’t want to buy a tablet that you will have to worry about charging every few hours. A battery life of at least 8 hours is important for watching videos and using YouTube on your tablet. Think about how much you’ll use the tablet before choosing a model that has long battery life.

The battery capacity is also important when using your tablet for YouTube and video consumption. The battery life can be quite short in cheaper tablets, so when on the go make sure you have a charger with you.

Most of the tablets I have tested will need to be plugged in every few hours. The fire hd8 plus model has an amazing ability to charge at a fast rate and hold a charge for long periods of time so it can run all day (sometimes all night depending on usage).

Resolution: 720p, 1080p, or higher reccomended for YouTube tablets?

A screen resolution of at least 1280×720 pixels is the minimum you’ll want to have for watching YouTube videos on a tablet because this will allow yo auto watch 720p. If you want to watch in 1080p, then this will need to be higher than 1920x1080p.

Most of the tablets that I have reviewed and tested are capable of playing YouTube in 720p and are certainly ideal if you’re watching YouTube, creating a YouTube channel, or using the tablet to watch YouTube TV. Most iPad models are capable of this resolution; the iPad Air, the iPad Pro, and the basic standard iPad.

Whether you’re Ising a tablet or not; keep in mind there are also a few tools for analyzing playback of YouTube videos, so if you want to get even more details its possible to use a tool. (source)

Storage is yet another feature many youtubers overlook when choosing a good tablet for video consumption. You may want to consider the storage size and type available in your model before purchase. I recommend at least 32GB of space to store a few downloaded movies & TV shows from YouTube. If you’re using YouTube music then this will also allow you to store some offline music on your tablet (SD video or HD Video).

If you’re on a budget, the Fire HD 8 is capable of these storage recommendations which will allow you to store ten YouTube videos offline that are 15 minutes long at 2.5gb per video.

There are two different storage types for tablets: internal and large external memory cards the Android tablets, even the cheaper ones, can use a micro SD to expand the memory.

Processor & Ram

The ideal processor and ram to have is at least a 2 Ghz processor and 1-2GB of ram (minimum). This is what will allow your tablet to run smoothly whether you are using it for video consumption or with other apps installed.

You’ll also want to choose a tablet that isn’t heavy with app or program bloatware like many of the third party tablets. the amazon fire hd has ads version and ads free version; so if you don’t have YouTube premium then you’ll have a few ads to deal with and a good processor (which the amazon fire tablet has) will pay off when multi-tasking.

USB ports are the most common types of connectivity that tablets have. USB C is always a nice to have when shopping for a tablet that you might want to use watching YouTube on. However, having a tablet with USB C port allows you to charge your tablet quickly with a specific charger provided by the tablet manufactureror other fast charging plugs. The USB C port also allows for faster transfer of large files like video files and movies compared to older tablets without this port option.

Price range

The last thing you’ll want to consider when choosing a tablet for YouTube consumption is the price range. This is important because there are many tablets on the market that may not have the specs you’re looking for in a certain price range.. Look out for anything specific like ram and processor, or screen size, storage when considering the price range.

How we tested and rated our picks: the best tablets for watching youtube

We tested our picks based on the processor, storage, ram, how well they display YouTube in HD and how well they work with YouTube TV (large screen).

We used each tablet for a couple days and we tested the battery life and how it scored in our display tests. We used a variety of methods to test each tablet on battery life including streaming YouTube videos, watching YouTube on the web, using apps to create content with the tablet, & playing games.

Tablets with a larger display size, larger battery, good audio, and 1080p video playback scored higher. Those that can use the YouTube app, YouTube music, and YouTube premium in the app without issues were rated well. Those without good audio, or short battery life had a lower score.

How to use YouTube on a Tablet

Using YouTube on a tablet is quite simple. You can download the YouTube app or the web app. If you are using google play then you can access YouTube there. If you’re using the apple App Store, then you’ll find YouTube in there.

The YouTube app works on tablets, smartphones, and computers with YouTube installed. If you have a smart tv you can also watch YouTube there by connecting your tablet to the TV using the HDMI cable or bluetooth. In the past it was possible to casting using google chromecast. However now, most smartphones and tablets have the option to cast right in the YouTube app itself on the top right hand corner of the video being played.

Once you connect your tablet to the tv it will automatically open the YouTube App/Web on your TV and in that app you’ll find all of your videos or channels that are available for streaming. Be sure to sign in to your YouTube account because many forget to do this.

Types of uses for a tablet using YouTube

If you’re an influencer or a YouTube then the tablet you want to use may require more ram, bigger display, better camera or capabilities because when recording video for YouTube these technical specs are desired. If you’re casually using YouTube premium, YouTube music, watching videos and using the internet and basic apps, then you can get away with a cheaper tablet like the amazon fire hd which works well for this type of use.
